I recently upgraded from Linux Mint 13 to 14. A feature that I've regularly used without problems in Linux Mint 12 and 13 no longer works properly. It no longer takes my designation of the folder location to save the file. To be clear, I don't want it to always print in the same default folder, I want to select the folder each time.
The normal procedure that I've followed for years is: Go "print to file". Then "save in folder: other" and browse to a folder. Then create a file name, and print. It lets me do that, but then always puts the file in the /home directory, ignoring what I specified.
Update Dec. 29, 2012: After about 90-120 minutes searching these forums, I see many people trying to change the default folder for print to PDF, but I see nothing about this issue of the location of results from print to file. Still stumped. :?:
Possibly related info
1) I changed the hostname immediately after installing Linux Mint 14. I changed it in both places and followed instructions exactly. It seems correct now.
2) I had problem designating non-/home folder location when I installed Dropbox. It wouldn't allow me to designate any other location except /home. I worked around it by installing Dropbox there, then moving it, which it allowed me to do.

Re: Print to file: Results always go to /home
I still have this problem and welcome advice or suggestions. I would prefer not to reinstall Mint unless I knew it would fix the problem. Thank you.

I also have the same issue. No matter what file I choose for destination, the
only place it will print to is ~/myuser.
