Skype starts only once after installation

Post by gorade » Tue Jan 01, 2013 6:21 am

Running LinuxMint 14 nadia 64 bit.
When I install Skype from repos, it seems to work OK and starts with the operative system logging in. But that's only the first time. On a second attempt it doesn't and I can't start it manually either.

Trying to start from console, I get:
Fatal: QWidget: Must construct a QApplication before a QPaintDevice
Interrupted (SIGABRT) (log created?)
To get it going again, I have to uninstall and remove .Skype too.

I have been looking through the syslog. Only reference is
.desktop' has malformed Icon key 'skype.png'(should not include extension)
Anyone who recognizes this?

Rename hidden .skype settings folder and restart Skype.

Yes, that's what I have to do for every reinstallation. I log in and the program starts. Then after one or two restarts. Skype doesn't start at all and I can't start it manually.

Trying to start from console gives:
Fatal: QWidget: Must construct a QApplication before a QPaintDevice
Interrupted (SIGABRT) (log created?)
