I've had Linux Mint 13 MATE 64-Bit installed a few months now, and I'm very happy with it.
I run the Terminal app a lot, since I do a lot of command-line stuff.
Today, I decided to install CINNAMON alongside MATE.
I click on "Open in terminal" whereever I find it, and nothing happens.
Terminal does not show up in MENU->All Applications, either.
I tried using the file manager to find it on the system, and it does not do so.
WHY NO TERMINAL FOR CINNAMON?
No terminal in Cinnamon?

Re: No terminal in Cinnamon?
Well, the Terminal app is really called mate-terminal in /usr/bin.
I started it and then in the app I created an alias to it on my Desktop.
I can now double-click it and it will run.
But, I cannot add it to the panel, which is where I want to start it from,
or also from whereever I find "Open in terminal".
Is this how Cinnamon really is when it comes to the terminal app?
If so, it really sucks and is a real reason for me to stop using Cinnamon.

Re: No terminal in Cinnamon?
I think you need install gnome-terminal. Use synaptic package manager, search for gnome-terminal

I installed gnome-terminal and now "Terminal" shows up in MENU->All Applications and I can run itmank_in wrote:I think you need install gnome-terminal. Use synaptic package manager, search for gnome-terminal
both from the panel and "Open in terminal" whereever it shows up.
WHY ISN'T THIS PROVIDED IN THE DEFAULT CINNAMON INSTALL?
Thanks for the help.

Re: No terminal in Cinnamon?
I am a little unclear on what 'install CINNAMON alongside MATE' means, but I run Cinnamon as a stand alone distribution and I definitely have a 'Terminal' app (Gnome-Terminal) that shows up in the 'Accessories' category of the Cinnamon menu. If you installed Cinnamon as a 'meta' package that you can select and boot into from the login screen, maybe some things are not added by default in the meta-packagerderosier wrote:I've had Linux Mint 13 MATE 64-Bit installed a few months now, and I'm very happy with it.

Sorry, probably a poor choice of words "alongside".Hawkeye_52 wrote:I am a little unclear on what 'install CINNAMON alongside MATE' means, but I run Cinnamon as a stand alone distribution and I definitely have a 'Terminal' app (Gnome-Terminal) that shows up in the 'Accessories' category of the Cinnamon menu. WHY NO TERMINAL FOR CINNAMON?...

But, yes, I used Synaptic to install mint-meta-cinnamon-dvd, so now I decide what to run at login, if I want.
