Hi. I'm a newbie, this is my first post on these forums and I'm trying to follow this instructions to get GLUT on my machine:
http://web.eecs.umich.edu/~sugih/course ... wto/#linux

But when I try to run this command on the terminal: "sudo apt-get install freeglut-devel", I get this message:

Unable to locate package freeglut-devel

I went to software manager->edit->software sources and checked everything at Downloadable from the internet on LinuxMint Software tab, and also checked everything at Other Software tab. Then I ran apt-get update on terminal and tried again but still got "Unable to locate package freeglut-devel"

I'm using Linux Mint 14 mate 32-bit

If this is not the right way to post this question, please forgive me and tell me how to do it.

Help Please. Any advice will be appreciated.

I couldn't find any packages called freeglut. I did find packages called freeglut3. If that is the same program, seems like you need freeglut3-dev.

Following found when doing a search for "freeglut":

freeglut3 - OpenGL Utility Toolkit
freeglut3-dbg - OpenGL Utility Toolkit debugging information
freeglut3-dev - OpenGL Utility Toolkit development files
libtaoframework-freeglut-cil-dev - Tao CLI binding for freeglut - development files
libtaoframework-freeglut2.4-cil - Tao CLI binding for freeglut

Note that Fedora is quite different from Linux Mint, or Ubuntu and Debian on which it is based. It has different names for packages, so generally you would want to find tutorials for Ubuntu, Debian, or another distribution based on either. But finding one for Linux Mint or Ubuntu will be best.

Back when I used to use it, I think the package's name was mesa-common-dev. I'm not sure if that's still the case.

EDIT: freeglut3-dev which the above poster mentioned should be the correct one. I think you'll need mesa-common-dev as well though.

Yeah, that was the problem. How do I mark this as solved?

Click the 'edit' button in the top right of your first post here. Then add <SOLVED> to the subject.

Ah ok done, thanks. But don't you think it would be faster if there was a "mark as solved" button? :)
