Python-Iview installation

Post by LordDraco »

I'm trying to install python-iview, which is a program that allows you to download ABC iview (Australian BBC player) content to watch offline.

The person making it has stopped publishing the all-in-one ready to go package because of copyright issues, but I still need to use it as my internet connection is rubbish and makes an hour video 3 hours with buffering.

I believe it is being kept up to date here:

But I can't seem to get it running with my noob skills.

Any hints/ a step by step guide would be appreciated.

Running Mint 14 Cinnamon.

Hi I have just dealt with this problem for myself having found your post along the way.

( It seems, and I could be wrong, that the ABC has made some change to iview to stop python-iview working)

I found the latest updated version at

Here's how to do it;

1 download and extract the latest snapshot just put the extracted files in a new folder.

2 use Synaptic to install beautifulsoup and rtmpdump

3 it mentions in the readme file to run this command in a terminal
./iview-gtk or ./iview-cli
but just clicking on the iview-gtk icon gets it running nicely, you may have to choose the run option if a window pops up.

Installation is as follows:
1 ensure that python3.2 or newer is installed; also ensure that git is installed.
2. Now clone a copy of python-iview:

Code: Select all

git clone
3. cd to the directory where resides. The installation is a two step process:

Code: Select all

python3 build
sudo python3 install
Good luck and cheers -
