(SOLVED) Motion /var/run/motion folder missing

Post by vlaadislav »

i have followed the tutorial for motion from the following site http://www.maketecheasier.com/setup-motion-detection-webcam-ubuntu/2013/06/20

when i go to run motion via sudo motion i get the following

[0] Processing thread 0 - config file /home/glen/.motion/motion.conf
[0] Motion 3.2.12 Started
[0] Motion going to daemon mode
[0] Exit motion, cannot create process id file (pid file) /var/run/motion/motion.pid: No such file or directory

Problem is i can create the missing folder but when i reboot the folder vanish and i have to recreate the folder

any ideas on how to solve this issue will be welcomed

running Linum Mint 15 64bit

The /var/run directory is tmpfs type, with each reboot clears the contents.
You have 3 options to solve this problem:

1) Enable Motion Daemon.
2) Create a script to help recreate the directory, and make it run at system startup.
3) Search any option in the Motion configuration file to change the folder location.

2, i dont know how i would do this
The easiest way is:
a) Open Nemo as root, press the key combination alt + f2 and running the following command:

Code: Select all

gksu nemo
b) Go to the directory /etc and locate the file rc.local.
c) Double click the file to edit.
d) Before the last line, insert the appropriate command to recreate the directory, eg

Code: Select all

mkdir /var/run/motion
e) Save the file and close it.
f) Reboot and check that everything works.
