Remove Custom LM Yahoo Search

Post by 0qubit1 »

First of all, I have already edited about:config and added the string http://search.yahoo.com/search?p= to keyword.URL. The problem is when I search from the awesome bar I still get the stupid and annoying Linux Mint custom Yahoo search page instead of just the Yahoo search page that I want. How do I stop LM from forcing me to use their stupid worthless custom Yahoo search, other than reinstalling Ubuntu?

No such luck, but thanks anyways. The thing is you should be able to put the search engine in the about:config settings and search right from the address bar with that engine. No matter what engine I change keyword.url to, I still get the LM Yahoo search page. They have deliberately made it difficult to change since they profit off my searches on that site.

Hi 0qubit1> Not real sure what you are going on about, but Firefox (as of version 23) no longer allows an easy way to have a separate keyword.URL search - your search engine is determined by what you choose for your search bar on the right side of the address bar. So have you set that search engine to the one you want there? Some hacks and addons such as this exist if you want to use a different search engine in both.

Ps... If you object only to the Mint Search Enhancer just disable it in your Extensions (though I'm not sure it does anything). To enable Yahoo search(generic) go to http://mycroftproject.com/ choose Yahoo and once you find the one you want (probably the first in section 15) click it and choose to add it. Use your drop-down and choose it - the appearance of the icon is different from the default Mint Yahoo. Your searches in the address bar will use it now also.

Thanks for the response. I have Yahoo selected in the SEARCH BAR. The FF extension says it 'enhances Google search results' so I don't see how that affects me, since I don't use Google, but I disabled it anyways. No such luck. I just want to search from the ADDRESS BAR and have it go to Yahoo search results, not Yahoo via Linux Mint. You see, when I do a search from the address bar, say for "rainbows Yahoo", I get a Yahoo search page but it has a Linux Mint logo in the left corner, and it says, sorry you can't search for that because Linux Mint thinks you are a child and has filtered your search. So I have to actually type yahoo.com in the addie bar, go to Yahoo, and do my search there, when I should be able to just do it from the addie bar t begin with. Here let me take a shotty.

Sorry it won't let me add it to the post, can't determine the dimensions.

PS "rainbows Yahoo?" Eh, I guess.

Hi 0qubit1> No, you do not have Yahoo selected in the search bar - you have the Mint Yahoo in the search bar. If you read and follow the directions I gave in the post you quoted you would have a different Yahoo icon in your search bar. Please note the differences in the shots - searching from the address bar...

And yes the FF extension seems to have no effect even with Google - I suspect it is just a carryover from an older function.
