problems installing tor - SOLVED

Post by waynea » Sat Oct 26, 2013 3:11 pm

I seem to have instaled it ok, but I get an error when I try to use it. The log reads

Oct 26 20:03:56.582 [Warning] /usr/bin/tor-browser/Data/Tor is not owned by this user (wayne, 1000) but by root (0). Perhaps you are running Tor as the wrong user?

I have to tried to change ownership using both

sudo chown -R $wayne ~/.tor-browser/data/tor
sudo chown -R $wayne ~/.tor-browser/

but the terminal errors this with chown: missing operand after ‘/usr/bin/tor-browser/’

and still fail.Im am certainly doing something silly here - can anyone tell me what it is??

Download Tor Browser Bundle for your architecture. Extract the archive to your Home directory. Go into the Tor Browser folder, click on "start-tor-browser". Simples.
Core i7 Linux Mint 19.2/Windows 10
