GPG Public Key Import Failure

Post by Phoenix9110 »

Hey all,

So after using Linux Mint 13 on a desktop and loved it I switched to a new Asus Laptop and installed Linux Mint 13 Mate(x64) onto it.

Im no newbie to gpg but i'm getting a weird import error for public keys.

gpg: CTC error; 777667 - B0986F
gpg: read_block: read error: invalid keyring
gpg: import from 'publickey.txt' failed: invalid keyring
gpg: Toal number processed: 0

I can import keys from the online keyservers just fine, which I don't need at all... Just as a test.

I can also view my private key in my keyring.

Any ideas? Thanks in advance!

I think in Mate13 you can't encrypt on right click in Caja, as you can in KDE, for example.
In what app you're trying to achive this? Or console?
Try to install enigmail addon for thunderbird and try to import public keys there...

Im not sure what Caja is.

I use the same method I am now as I do with my x64 bit desktop version of 13 mate, with nothing different.

I'm using gpg in terminal. gpg --import 'key.txt'

Am I really going to have to do this a way which involves more steps? I'm accustomed to using terminal in everything I do in Linux as thats the linux I've grown to love. Meaning its my easiest and fastest route for commands.

Edit: Going through enigmail and importing the public key still reads the entire error message stated in the OP. =/

Something is upppp.

Which keyring do you have installed? Mate or gnome or both?

Why don't you install a new installation of Mint in a Oracle VirtualBox and try gpg in the virtual Mint environment?
Have no other idea...

Ehh, no thanks. Not really a viable fix/option.

Im more looking to have my system functional the way it should be.
