aMSN broken - workaround

Postby cathbard » Thu Aug 07, 2008 4:31 am

The package in the hardy repo for amsn is currently broken. If you compile it from source it will work ok but that requires installing a lot of packages and a bit of work so I have used the "make deb" option in the source and uploaded it so you can use this until the one in hardy is fixed.
Simply remove the one you have (apt remove amsn) and download this one and install it by clicking on it in nautilus (the filebrowser). It will tell you that a later version is available but don't worry about that, just install it. When mintupdate offers a new version don't accept it - simply uncheck it and wait until a later version than 0.97.20070524-1 is available.
This was compiled on a 32 bit system so if you have installed a 64 bit kernel you will probably have to compile it yourself.

To do it from the command line:

Code: Select all

apt remove amsn
cd ~/Downloads
sudo dpkg -i amsn_0.97.2-1.deb

I'll let you know when it's ok to install it via mintupdate. In the meantime, this should get you back online
