Pidgin and webcam - is there a way?

Postby mig_akira » Sun Aug 10, 2008 1:44 am

Hello everyone!

I use Pidgin, and I think it's the best IM software there is for linux. Of course, except for it I know only aMSN, emesene and Kopete. Pidgin is, I think, cleaner and more stable.

But there is a minor problem - I can't use my webcam with it. It's an integrated webcam. My notebook is a Dell Vostro 1400. Is there some plugin, or something, that may allow me to use my webcam? I use a MSN account.

Linux Mint 5.0 RC1 (Gnome)
Dell Vostro 1400 | Core 2 Duo T8300 @ 2.4GHz | 2.5 GB Ram | nVidia GeForce 8400M GS | 120GB HD | DVD-RW |

Well, as far as I know, Pidgin doesn't support webcam. I don't think so at least. My friend tried to do webcam with me but it said it was unsupported. Now, as far as it goes with Linux, I do believe I saw an article in the latest newsletter that said something about the new release or soon to be release of the kernel will have better webcam support.
