[solved] Mint 16 install in virtualbox with no 3D accel.

Post by beauman »

Hello everyone!

I have installed the latest Linux Mint release in virtualbox.

The X-Server and Cinnamon are running stable, but 3D support won't work. The host system is also a Mint 16. A NVIDIA 7600 card is used together with 304.116 legacy drivers.

The log file from X (http://pastebin.com/9PpLjHEz) reports at line 276:

Code: Select all

[ 30.200] (EE) AIGLX error: vboxvideo does not export required DRI extension
[ 30.204] (EE) AIGLX: reverting to software rendering

When starting cinnanom I get on stderr: http://pastebin.com/hQB5aDEx At the very top it says:

Code: Select all

libGL error: failed to load driver: vboxvideo
lsmod gives me:

Code: Select all

~ $ lsmod|grep vbox
vboxsf 39574 1
vboxvideo 12658 1
drm 296739 2 vboxvideo
vboxguest 244305 7 vboxsf
Any advice on how I could make 3D working? Thanks in advance!

Regards,
Beauman

did you installed additions for your virtual LM guest session? those are drivers and apps optimizing virtual OS for better performance and usability.

I didn't check the 3D acceleration button from the VM VirtualBox Manager settings of the mint box. And I gave it a little more graphics memory. I changed the default setting of 12MB to 64MB. Now it's working.

Never mind & thanks anyway!
