Thanks a bunch, it's been so long since I've used Linux that I wouldn't even know where to
start looking for such things.

Guess now I'll have to figure which one of those is the best one.

I use Comix usually but wasn't able to install it in my new Mint Tara OS?
Nor was I able to install Mcomix. For both I get "impossible to find the package".
I can read comics in Evince but it's not the same quality (full screen gets Evince full screen, not the comic itself, for instance).
And Calibre is a very good software but it makes a copy of the file, which for comics (who are much heavier than books) is a waste of space.

You can read cbr and cbz using Xreader but I prefer/love Mcomix since it fits all the comic/manga specific needs. I don't understand why they dump it from the repos, we really need it!

Anyway, you can install via its official PPA:
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:nilarimogard/webupd8
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install mcomix

Hi uskomaton,

I just read your post and the good replies to it. Here are my thoughts on this as well.

+1 for Calibre

Depending on which edition and version of Linux Mint you use, there are usually Applets, Desklets, Widgets (KDE), "Screenlets", & other apps to display comics. If you search the "Synaptic Package Manager (SPM)" for comic, there should be a few options in that.

Hope this helps ...

I use Mate, or sometimes XFCE, but I'm not familiar with using widgets to read comics?
Could you elaborate?

I would prefer using things from the official repositories than from a PPA, if possible.

Hi LienRag,

I just updated my last reply with a screenshot of the KDE comics widget.

If you download comics, there are various software applications that can view them and or catalog them including Calibre.

"Widgets" are usually a term for Applets and or Desklets for the KDE systems.

The Cinnamon and KDE desktops have a lot of these (Applets, Desklets, widgets), but Mate and Xfce desktops do not which I have never understood. But, there is a "screenlets" option available which might include comics. Some of the picture and or slideshow Applets, Desklets, Widgets might also be able to view comics and or their URL's, as with "webframe" type apps.

Screenlets (Desktop Widgets) Fixed For Ubuntu 16.04, Available In PPA ~ Web Upd8: Ubuntu / Linux blog
http://www.webupd8.org/2017/02/screenle ... d-for.html

FYI: Not all PPA's are bad or dangerous for your system. And, you can usually download an easy to install Linux deb file from a PPA for any particular software you might be interested in without actually installing the PPA.

Comix is in the Software Manager or Synaptic Package Manager (SPM) and specifically mentions Xfce but works on all editions.

I think there is a misunderstanding here as uskomaton was asking for a cbr/cbz reader, not for a webcomic type viewer/widget/applet/whatever. "Comix" is not on the Mint 19 repos anyway, that is for sure. Qcomicbook and Peruse are the present alternatives in the repo, but I really prefer Mcomix myself.

There certainly was a confusion, I didn't understand that the widgets were about webcomics.

And Qcomics does the job, thanks!

Calibre easy to use and easy to install plus it has a lot of supported format.
