Why does Mint come with python 2 instead of 3?

Post by Qbr12 »

I recently finished an introduction to python programming class, and one of the first things my teacher helped me to was install python 3.3. When i wanted to run some code I had made, I had to type"python3.3" because typing "python" would use python2. Admittedly, it's not hard to add a "3.3", but I was just curious as to why it isn't the other way around, where "python" brings up python3 and to use an older version you have to specify the older version you want.

IMO this is because a lot of applications are written in Python 2 and unfortunately Python 3 is not backwards compatible with Python 2.
