How do you make Picasa default Media Handler for Photos

Post by jang1a »

I checked properties of nautilus, and saw there is no default media handler for photos. Since Picasa has media detector, can I make Picasa my default media handler? Whenever a new memory card is inserted, it will automatically ask whether to import or not? This happens when Picasa media detecor is active. But I don't know how to get Picasa media detector started on startup. Any ideas?

Hi Jang1a
I have picasa installed and found that once the programme is started then the media detector icon is loaded in the toolbar and even if picasa is closed, any photos on media inserted into the machine are immediately displayed in Picasa. For the detector to be running by default it would have to be loaded at startup and I am not sure how best to achieve this in mint, possibly by adding the programme in sessions in the control panel. Perhaps someone else can tell you how to do this.

Edit: You could try this http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php? ... at+startup

Good Luck

I'd throw in a vote here for F-Spot as a nicer alternative to Picasa. It's in the repos and runs natively as opposed to the messy wine setup that Picassa uses.

My vote goes to Picasa :D

I like the integration with my Picasa web gallery.

OK

One option to launch Picasa when you log-in is to go to mint menu right click Picasa and select the option launch when I log in. This will do as it says and you can close the application but media detector will remain operational.

You could right click the image file and click properties.
Select the open with tab and add a new app Picasa.
Now it should automatically select the for the default app.
You have to do this for every image file you want Picasa to open.(example: .png, .jpg, .jpeg, etc)
