Hello,
unfortunately I have to hold clean my Desktop, because otherwise nemo is using too much RAM. It starts just normally, but after a while nemo consumes more and more of the RAM till no more RAM is available and my Computer freezes.
Is there any solution on this? Right now I really save no files on desktp.
Thanks, Falk

Re: nemo is using lozt of RAM
Might it be related to your other problem? (http://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?f=47&t=174479)
Which Linux Mint version?
Which Linux Mint version?
Re: nemo is using lozt of RAM
no, it seems not to be related to the other issue.
My Mint is 15 (Olivia).
Gnome 3.6.3
Kernel 3.8.0-35-generic

Re: nemo is using lozt of RAM
Maybe it's time to upgrade Mint for the reason of Mint 15 is obsolete now.dafalk wrote: My Mint is 15 (Olivia)
A how-to can be found here: http://forum.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?f=46&t=173378
Re: nemo is using lozt of RAM
ah really! I am not up to date concerning the development of the linux distis. Thanks for pointing me to that. Hopefully all my issues will end in smoke after this update.
Thank you.
Thank you.
Re: nemo is using lozt of RAM
Now I did teh update, but nemo still consumes a lot of RAM sometimes. But only sometime and only when something is stored on the desktop.
So its still actual. Somebody has an advice how to solve it?

Re: nemo is using lozt of RAM
Is it really Nemo or the Cinnamon desktop? When do you notice the memory usage? There are some threads about Cinnamon consuming a lot of memory, even when the system is idle..dafalk wrote:Now I did teh update, but nemo still consumes a lot of RAM sometimes. Re: nemo is using lozt of RAM
The process name is nemo. Half a hour ago it consumed about 30MB, right now is 60MB so its crowing. And it is only doing this if I have stored one or more files on the desktop. I couldnt find a answer about this.

I'll try to find an answer as well. I must say, now i'm using MATE but when i was using Cinnamon i noticed a hugh memory consumption of Cinnamon starting from +/-150 MB up to a whopping 1 GB after 24 hours! This i also noticed under Mint 16 and Mint 15 but not as bad as with Mint 17.
I'll try help you no worries.
*edit*

Re: nemo is using lozt of RAM
It doesn't sound like there's something other Linux Mint users can do for you despite nomko's willingness. You're already on the current release of Nemo, instead of an outdated one, and it seems a reproducible problem.
- If you don't have files on the desktop, nemo process stay around the same size
- If you do have files on the desktop, nemo process grows from 30 MB to 60 MB in 30 minutes
Couple of questions:
- Does it continue to grow beyond that? How big have you seen it?
- Are you using any (yourself installed, duh) nemo actions or extensions?
- Just to rule it out, can you reproduce it with default Cinnamon and Nemo settings (default theme & applets) -- create a new user account and put some files on its desktop before you go for dinner or lunch for example, and see before & after memory usage of nemo
- How big are the files you are putting on your desktop? What kind?
With that information, look at the other issues reported about nemo memory usage: https://github.com/linuxmint/nemo/issue ... sue+memory. Is there one that describes your case, or is similar enough it is useful to add your case & information as a comment there? If this is indeed an issue in nemo itself, and not some problem with a 3rd party theme, applets, actions, or extensions, then you'll want to report this to the developers of nemo. Which you do on GitHub, not here.
