CPU Utilization

Postby mister_bin » Mon Oct 06, 2008 8:56 am

Hello hello...

I'm slowly getting mint to the point where my old windows was.. slowly but surely and i'm learning... Now i have one huge question for you guru's

I downloaded Conky...to check CPU utilization and so on.. and i have noticed that when i am not running any apps (no torrents no web browsing just ProFTPD with no connections to it so no DL or UL) My CPU utilization is around 17 -20%... now i was wondering if there was any way to trim the fat so to speak to get that utilization (when its idle) to around 2 -3%

Could Conky by whats causing my CPU utilization to jump up to that ??

The computer i'm running it on is no spring chicken its a :
1.7 Ghz
512 Mb Ram

Its an oldie i built it in 2000... I really dont want to sink any money into it because its not my main computer its just a small server type computer thats on 24/7 that i use for downloading and for FTP service...

Any suggestion will be greatly appreciated..

Don't fix it if it ain't broken, don't break it if you can't fix it
