Update your topic title. Let's tackle the obvious first: Linux Mint 14 is no longer supported--you should either upgrade to Linux Mint 17 or downgrade to Linux Mint 13. Read more here: http://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?f=17&t=173378

Open the terminal application and type this command to gather some information about your computer:

Code: Select all

inxi -Fxz
Share the output here for use to give some opinion on that (you can copy text from the terminal, see it's Edit menu).

Dual core Celeron processor, 4 GiB RAM, and Intel graphics—you can pretty much use whichever edition of Linux Mint you want. You're currently using Linux Mint 14 64-bit Cinnamon. You could go for Linux Mint 17 64-bit Cinnamon.

I posted about this problem a few minutes ago in another part of the forum.
I expect that it will do him no good to update to Mint 17 or 18 for that matter as I have the same experience this week with my desktop running mint 17.3
I am waiting to hear if there is any way to use a linux computer to converse with someone on skype who is probably using some form of windows or maybe on an ipod or ipad or other device.
