which deb repository?? <SOLVED>

Post by BobMacall » Wed Sep 10, 2014 3:30 pm

I need to add a repo but can't figure out which one to add. It's for Gretl build-dep.
Their (Gretl) wiki page says :
You should be able to do this by adding a line to your /etc/apt/sources.list like this: deb http://ftp.de.debian.org/debian sid main then in terminal apt-get build-dep gretl
I changed sid to wheezy as I'm using Mint 17. But I get an error. Says I need to add sources repository.
Anybody have a clue??
thanks,
Bob

You're mixing up 2 things here, Linux Mint 17 doesn't come with a Debian version. In fact Mint comes in 2 "flavours": Mint 17 and LMDE:

Linux Mint 17 with:
- Cinnamon desktop
- MATE desktop
- Xfce desktop
- KDE desktop

LMDE with:
- Cinnamon desktop
- MATE desktop

LMDE means Linux MInt Debian Edition

Their wiki also says under point 1:
1. you may simply write in the terminal with the root privileges
apt-get install gretl
Did you tried this first? Because the way i read it, it should be in the repository already. Otherwise they won't suggest to perform the apt-get install command first and adding a PPA as a second option.

I had to change deb to deb-src. Then I found out that I didn't have the right gpg keys and needed to install them (apt-key).
Then, "apt-get build-dep gretl" and all of the dependancies to build gretl from source were downloaded in one fell swoop. Easy!
Note to self: "remember this next time!"

The deb-src PPA only contains the source files. For regular users it is not required to have it in their repository list.

Glad you solved it yourself!
