Wine setup on linux mint

Post by ape-legacy »

If anyone knows how wine is setup on linux mint and could share with me that would be great. Looking for any fonts installed, settings changed or anything else done. Trying to replicate this on Arch but having a hard time particularly with fonts. Any help would be appreciated.

what software are you trying to run - using wine ?.

some fonts, such as M$ true-type, have to be installed.

What is "this"?
Are you trying to setup wine on Arch, or Mint? If Arch, have fun!
What is "a hard time"?

FWIW, I have NO windows fonts installed; Audition, photoshop, irfanview and foobar run fine.
/home/username/.wine : ls -a ./drive_c/windows/Fonts
. ..

My customization is basically what you need to do to run Photomatrix software:

I usually install PlayonLinux first. PlayonLinux does a great job managinf wine versions as well as other configurations.
It may "fuss" about needing other dependencies when you run it. If it does, just install them.

I guess my question isn't about how to install wine. I guess I just would like to know what the mint team does to get the fonts rendering correctly in wine so they look smooth?

There a few things...

1. Use the "software manager" to install "wine" its the easy auto install way.
2. also look at software manager for fonts, then the first MS fonts since some Microsoft programs use them. (I am not on my Linux atm to give the exact name but it is the first listed with stars)
I have installed a bunch of WIN PC disks games and programs and they look ok :) *the ones on the ok database list* 80-100% good working

BEFORE you just start installing all your Microsoft PC disc like I did check over at https://appdb.winehq.org/ first in the database if you stuff every works with the latest version.

I made three piles "ok to install" "no go install" and "Unknown pile"

There are a few more things like setting up wine for some programs if run under 95/98 or XP or etc... and if your video card is detected. that is another topic.
