MintUpdate won't work

Postby HughSK » Fri Oct 17, 2008 10:14 am

Hi - I am not a Linux expert so I need some help, as no one else seems to be having my problem as far as I can see.

For the last few days MintUpdate will not connect, nor can I install or remove software using the terminal or the deb installer. Below is the report I get from MintUpdate:

++ MintUpdate is in tray mode, performing auto-refresh
++ Starting refresh
++ Auto-refresh timer is going to sleep for 5 minutes, 0 hours and 0 days
++ Successfully downloaded new safety rules using proxy: None
-- Error in checkAPT.py, could not refresh the list of packages

I am using Elyssa on an Acer laptop with 1Gb RAM and an Intel Centrino chip. So far I have not had problems with Mint, and love using it!

Cheers,

Hugh

Make sure you don't have Synaptic or any other package managers running.

No, those are always off when it tries. It is only this week it has stopped dead like this - the last 4 months it has been fine.

Sadly, since I cannot update at all, and no one seems to be able to solve the problem, I have to ditch Mint and try Mandriva.

Bye.... :(

See you.

For others facing the same problem I believe it could be a bug in mintUpdate 2.x. You can grab the debs for mintUpdate 3.x on http://packages.linuxmint.com or from the Romeo repository (make sure to upgrade mintSystem also).
