Password protected zip

Post by dreamkatcha » Fri Oct 03, 2014 4:50 pm

Hi,

I zipped up and password-protected an important document using Archive Manager when I was running Qiana Mate. Now I've switched to Cinnamon, it refuses to open - I just get the message, "an error occurred while extracting files". What gives? Surely they should be compatible across platforms? Any ideas would be much appreciated please.

They are compatible.

You could try removing the 'zip' and 'unzip' packages and then installing 'p7zip-full' to replace them. File Roller will automatically use the new program to create and extract archive files, and there's the added bonus of now being able to create and extract password-protected 7z files.

If you still can't extract it after that, then the password is wrong, or the zip file is corrupted.

Not sure if passwords are case sensitive, but I know mine is all lower case so that wasn't it. Anyway, 7-zip did the trick so I can breathe a sigh of relief now. Thanks, you really saved my skin there! :)

Thanks , have the same issue with encrypted zip. Now it works with 'p7zip-full'
