Flash is trash

Postby Qcumber » Fri Oct 24, 2008 3:32 pm

Hi!

I've been using Mint for a couple of weeks now and it has worked mostly fine. But today when I wanted to watch some YouTube videos I just got a white screen. No picture, no audio.

I use Elyssa with the latest updates. I have the latest versions of Adobe and Macromedia flash players. The weird thing is that it worked just a couple of days ago, last time I used flash, but now it doesn't. I haven't changed any computer settings or received any new updates.

Hope you can help me...

Ken

I have had this before as well and I've found the only solution is to close all other windows that have flash. It seems if you have too many windows running flash, none work.

Yes, maybe I shouldn't run too many windows at a time...

I installed flash 10 according to Clem's instructions at the top of the site.

I have an additional problem: when I go to startrek.com the site doesn't work. It just says:

"Macromedia Flash is Required
STARTREK.COM requires the Flash Player plug-in.
Many of the site's interactive elements were developed using Macromedia Flash.
To fully enjoy the site, you must have at least Version 8 of the Player installed."

But hello! I have Version 10!

Can any of you display their page or is it just me having trouble?

i also tested it... well it doesnt work for me either, i already know some sites doesnt work even you have flash for example www.meebo.com everthing works except when you try to webcam voice chat it isnt loading, so it might be the reason why you can watch youtubes and that site startrek isnt working

Well, I tried startrek.com with the Mandriva One spring 2008 live CD.
It worked fine. YouTube also worked fine. I checked the Mandriva Flash version. It's the 9,0,48,0.
Maybe startrek.com hasn't upgraded to flash 10 yet? The thing is that when I ran the Mint Elyssa live CD approx. 1 month ago, YouYube wouldn't work, but one or two weeks later it did. So obviously Mint was a little bit ahead of things.
Maybe I will just wait a couple of weeks and see if things work out themselves...

All of the sites that you mentioned work just fine in Daryna mint4 which has been an extremely stable system. Maybe its an issue with Elyssa. Ive been experimenting with it and I still have not been able to get "ndiswrapper" to work therefore no internet connection with that system. Elyssa works just fine using a friends Ethernet connection though. I have not tried flash with Elyssa yet as of this writing. I will keep an eye open for a solution. Husse or Clem may know of a solution. tgc :-)
