Hi All,
I have linuxmint-17-mate-32bit-v2_2.iso on a Live USB Flash drive.
I haven't changed any configurations with regards to Packages.
Synaptic lists 375 installed packages as being upgradeable.
Update Manager lists 336 recommended updates as being available.
Why the discrepancy?
Thanks, Michael.

Re: Update Manager has less Upgrades than Synaptic?
Because Update Manager sorts the updates by safe level, level 4 and 5 are not usually updated because they are considered untested or can cause instabilitymtbvfr wrote:Hi All,

Re: Update Manager has less Upgrades than Synaptic?
The Mint Update Manager only shows Level 1 through 3 updates by default. These are considered to be the "safe" updates. You can open the Update Manager, select the Level tab, and choose whether or not to see and/or apply level 4/5 updates. If you tick the available box it will apply Level 4/5 SECURITY updates, but not the more "dangerous" ones. Keep in mind that those higher levels contain upgrades to newer kernels and xorg updates that may or may not cause instability in your system.

Ok, that's via the Edit/Preferences menu item, folks, to make all the Level 4 and 5 updates visible.
Everything tallies up now.
Would the 3 x Level 4 and 5 x Level 5 Security Updates be considered safe?
Thanks, Michael.

Re: Update Manager has less Upgrades than Synaptic?
I've had no problem with them as the security updates may patch the kernel, but they don't upgrade it to a newer kernel.
