sources.list error

Post by siawacsh »

Hello, I recently tried to install Chrome browser from google but ended up with this error.

Code: Select all

This is a major failure of your software management system. Please check for broken packages with synaptic, check the file permissions and correctness of the file '/etc/apt/sources.list' and reload the software information with: 'sudo apt-get update' and 'sudo apt-get install -f'.

When I tried to apply 755 permissions on the sources.list I get following error

Code: Select all

siawacsh@sager /etc/apt $ sudo apt-get install -f
Reading package lists... Error!
E: Encountered a section with no Package: header
E: Problem with MergeList /var/lib/apt/lists/packages.linuxmint.com_dists_qiana_import_i18n_Translation-en
E: The package lists or status file could not be parsed or opened.

Can anyone help?

Here's an idea. Open up the Software Source menu. On the bottom left there should be an "additional options" or something like that--choose it. Select the "Fix Merge List Problems" option.
I don't have my Mint computer with me right now, so I hope this is correct.
Best to you!
