Netflix & Amazon Streaming Issues

Post by don0don » Thu Feb 12, 2015 1:14 pm

I have a Compaq Presario F700 laptop with LMDE 201403 installed. I have Google Chrome 40 installed with the Widevine plug-in enabled. All NSS library files have been updated. Still can't play Netflix of Amazon videos in Chrome. Netflix throws this Error Code: M7063-1913.

I managed to get Amazon videos playing in Firefox by installing the Adobe Flash plugin and Michael Blennerhassett's "Zombie HAL." (Thanks, Michael!) However, I'd prefer to run both Amazon and Netflix videos in Google Chrome, if that's possible.

This is the lspci output:

Another time, when posting output, use Code tags
Makes it much more readable

Tried all kinds of suggestions found on other sites. Nothing worked. Found a different solution: I gave up on Linux Mint LMDE.

I really like Mint, especially with the Cinnamon DE. So, I installed Ubuntu 14,04 LTS and replaced the truly dreadful Unity DE with Cinnamon. Looks great.

The Netflix streaming problem was completely eliminated by simply running the Software Updater (which updates all the NSS files) and then installing the current version of Google Chrome (ver. 40). Then I installed the "Zombie HAL" and was able to stream Amazon videos in Firefox.

It's a shame that the LMDE Software Updater apparently doesn't update all the files necessary for streaming Netflix in Google Chrome. Perhaps that's something that will be addressed in an upcoming update.

^ I agree. Netflix works for me with Fedora Cinnamon, and worked with 17.1 Cinnamon, but not with LMDE. which I prefer over the standard Mint 17.1. FWIW, even after updating to Chrome 41.0, I still got the error message when I tried to watch Netflix. Luckily, I have a Roku Box and can watch films on the TV, but sometimes, I like to watch a TV episode on the desktop.
