apt-get upgrade crashes with segmentation fault on https

Postby pmario » Sun Mar 22, 2015 4:35 pm

I've installed Mint 17.1 Rebecca on my new desktop and everything works great with the exception of apt: when I run apt-get upgrade, the program crashes with the following error

Code: Select all

...
Get:1 http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ trusty-updates/main libssl1.0.0 i386 1.0.1f-1ubuntu2.11 [779 kB]
E: Method https has died unexpectedly!
E: Sub-process https received a segmentation fault.

I'm not sure how to handle this error or where to get the logs. Any idea? I guess I can just disable https but it would be nice to keep the security connection.

Before you used the apt-get upgrade did you first do apt-get update? The system has to know if new versions of programs exist. I dont know if this would cause the error that you reported, but maybe....also apt-get should be run as superuser, but you probably already know that....MrBob22

Yes I tried and anyway I hope for apt to be able to not segfault only because one forgot to call update. No, the problem is somewhere else and I am a bit worried. I'll try to don't use https and see what happens but...

The problem was a custom repository, dl.bintray.com, added with https instead of http. Still, I don't understand how apt could not support https...
