[WORKAROUND] Errors galore in gnome-disk utility.

It seems gnome-disk-utility is pretty limited in what it can do for me. Half the things I try give me errors like this:

Code: Select all

Error Creating Disk Image
Error allocating space for disk image file: Invalid argument (g-io-error-quark, 13)
I saw in another post that installing gdisk would get rid of the errors so I installed it. I'm still getting errors.

Code: Select all

An error occured
Error seeking to offset 2225496064 (g-io-error-quark, 13)

Code: Select all

Error mounting filesystem
Error mounting /dev/sdb2 at /media/justin/4380b11d-8416-4e71-96b3-3d1b010e8861: Command-line `mount -t "ext4" -o "uhelper=udisks2,nodev,nosuid" "/dev/sdb2" "/media/justin/4380b11d-8416-4e71-96b3-3d1b010e8861"' exited with non-zero exit status 32: mount: wrong fs type, bad option, bad superblock on /dev/sdb2,
missing codepage or helper program, or other error
In some cases useful info is found in syslog - try
       dmesg | tail or so

 (udisks-error-quark, 0)
And so on and so forth...

Thanks so much for that link!

Step 1: Uninstall gnome-disk-utility
Step 2: Do this:

Code: Select all

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:mc3man/trusty-tests
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install gnome-disk-utility
All better now? Enjoy!

workarounds are good but this tool is a serious problem.
you can easily break the system.

has anybody alerted the Mint team?
has anybody filed a bug report?

I am trying to do that, but am at a loss
Thanks
