Applications Slow To Open

Post by I Know Nothing »

Using Mint 17 Mate. My PC is old and low specced but compared to Ubuntu Mate 14.04 (ie the same Ubuntu base) set up in an identical a way as possible, things like firefox, libreoffice, Caja, probably just about everything takes noticeably longer to open on first time of use after start up. eg firefox in Mint 6.5 seconds and in Ubuntu Mate 2.5 seconds (taken from the health report thingy). Every version of Mint I've used has been the same, not just my present one. No big deal, just curious what it is that makes Mint slow in comparison if anyone's got any ideas.

Please generate an overview of your system like this:
- launch a terminal window and make it full screen, to avoid chopped lines;
- copy/paste this command into the terminal:

Code: Select all

inxi -Fxz
(if you type: the letter F is a capital letter)

Press Enter.

Copy/paste the output in your next message.

Thanks. I've already got Preload running on both Mint and Ubuntu Mate. It did cut opening times by a few seconds. Think I probably tried Prelink some time ago too.
