Installing Spotify?

Post by simon04 »

I followed the instructions here https://www.spotify.com/uk/download/previews/

But at the last step, I get

E: Unable to locate package spotify-client

Can anybody shed light on this please??

Mint 17.1 - recent admin change - if it makes a difference.

I've now solved this......

A clean install of Mint 17.1 Mate did the trick.... Installed spotify no problems.

Not sure why... maybe to do with permissions or config?

Same issue here, everything seems to go well, except for the last line, as noted above.

https://www.spotify.com/us/download/linux/

Linux Mint 17.1 Cinnamon 32-bit, Cinnamon version 2.4.8

This is a new dual-boot installation. Edit: got the win version working via winetricks, but it's a pain to log in via Facebook. Would much prefer a Linux native client.

Same problem happens with me with a fresh install of linux mind debian edition.

All works well, except last step:

Code: Select all

sudo apt-get install spotify-client
which returns:

Code: Select all

E: Unable to locate package spotify-client
And yes, during

Code: Select all

sudo apt-get update
I can see it go through the spotify repositories.

Any ideas about what's causing this?

Thanks a lot for your help.

Don't try again, check reqyuirements
http://ubuntuhandbook.org/index.php/201 ... ntu-14-04/
http://repository.spotify.com/pool/non-free/s/spotify/
--that's the .deb files..
[list[ maybe it is missing Gnome support or qt files: they are in this list..[/list]

Or possibly I would try gdebi app to find the spotify files

I had no trouble installing it, but I find the Linux version of Spotify a bit glitchy, and the only time my computer (Mint 17 64 bit) freezes is when it's running. For some reason, it also takes much longer than usual to shut down the computer if I've been using Spotify for Linux. So often instead I run the the Windows version in Wine, which seems to work fine, no glitches. So maybe go the Wine/Windows-version route if still having trouble installing the Linux version?
