Update manager, software repository stop working after 17.2

Post by marlenejo »

Just did an update last night of my Kde 17.1 to 17.2. Everything went fine. The update manager was working ok last night. This morning, an error appears in the software updater (see below). The updater won't work, the software repository refuse to open and synaptic pop up the same error and close.
What going on ?

>E: Problem with MergeList...
Open and login to the Software Sources program > Maintenance button > 'Fix MergeList' button . . be sure not to have Update Manager or Software Manager open.

Have you looked for it in the Menu ? System Menu ? If you can't find it, you can open it from Synaptic Package Manager > Menu > Settings > Repositories.

no it is not in the system menu but the search found it. I did what you ask and after reloading the cache, I still get this error : (it is in French). Something to do with GPG ???

>Erreur du téléchargement de tous les fichiers d'index

>Erreur de GPG : http://repo.steampowered.com precise InRelease : Le fichier signé en clair n'est pas valable, ce qui a été recu est NODATA. Peut etre le reseau nécessite-t-il une authentification.

Go to Software Sources -> Additional Repositories, disable any Steam-related repos, then update the cache. I had this problem, but disabling those repos fixed it for me.

I have Cinnamon, but I think that Software Sources is the same, since its a minty application.

No idea why steam is causing issues, though.

Great ! That's it. Disable those things and the reload work again. Back to normal. Boy, that's scary that a little thing like that can bring down the entire Mint software system. Ah well something to look at !

Thank you very much and richyrich for the instant help.

So did my daily updates last night (running Mint 7.2 Cin - upgraded from 7.0 to 7.1 to 7.2)... 7.2 has been good for over a week, by the way.

But this morning, I see that updater was having errors with the external repositories I had enabled. Not just one, but all 3.

steam:
deb [arch=amd64,i386] http://repo.steampowered.com/steam/ precise steam
deb-src [arch=amd64,i386] http://repo.steampowered.com/steam/ precise steam

ownclowd:
deb http://download.opensuse.org/repositori ... ntu_14.04/ /

spotify:
deb http://repository.spotify.com stable non-free

I had to disable them all this morning to get a successful apt-get update.

What's happened? Why are all these repos no longer working?

How is this a fix?

Someone please tell me why I had to remove these? The repo's are still there on the web. Why are they broken for us?
