I am new to Mint but have been using linux for over 10 years. I noticed that a lot of app are not available through mintInstall. Is it safe to use aptitude when I want a package that is not in mintInstall.

I was looking for gphoto2, and I've not found some games that my son likes, like circus linux.

Yes, Mint Install has a limited selection... aptitude has access to all the repositories. There is also removed...
