Firefox slowing down DNS Look up

Post by siawacsh »

In recent weeks I am experiencing Firefox to be very slow looking up URL's whereas Chrome is just fine. I am wondering if any one else is experiencing the same thing. I am using 44.02. On Mint 17.2

Thanks

This problem comes mostly from the FF-profile.
To find this out do the following:
Close FF.
Open your file-manager and make hidden files visible (press ctrl-h).
Rename the folder .mozilla to .mozilla.bck
Start FF, this will create automatically a new FF-profile.
Check.

To get back to your old profile:
Close FF.
Delete the new folder .mozilla
Rename the folder .mozila.bck back to .mozilla
Start FF. Done.

Thanks. I did what you said but it did not really seem to improve it. FF takes 3 minutes to load

while chrome does it in an instant.

I have a feeling it has to do with a bug linked with a recent update.

But not sure.

For me the site opened in FF in a second.

Create a new user account and check there.

Hi, where should I create the new user account? On FF, the website or the OS? Except for the OS I do not use any accounts. Please clarify.

A new user account for the system.
Probably you have a setting named Users & Groups (but this depends from the unknown desktop environment). Open it to create a new account; you can later remove the account with this also.

OK will do. I am now finding Chrome is slow loading up too. If you at my other post regarding the .Thrash. I am not able to thrash any files. It is either delete permanently or nothing. So I agree there is some thing wrong with system which a new user might resolve. Worst case scenario I might reinstall the OS.

Just to update the status on this issue. Creating a new user did not help much. This is because the new user (even though with full admin rights) does not have access to the resources such as my second internal drive. I was not able to import my bookmarks into the new environment in order to test firefox. But firefox as it was seemed fast enough.

So I removed firefox then deleted the mozzilla hidden file and reinstalled. This seems to have had marginal improvements however I still have to wait from anything up to 30 seconds for certain sites to load. I don't know what is going. Chrome is suffering from the issue but not by anything like the same extent as firefox.

I do not think this has anything to do with the web servers as the sites I am talking about are servers such as facebook, xe.com, ebay and the like. I think you would hear about it if it was these guys.

Launch the live system and compare the behavior there.
