Evolution and SpamAssassin does not work

Post by vace117 »

Greetings,

I have recently migrated from Ubuntu to Mint 17.3, and I can't seem to figure out how get Evolution spam filter to work the way it did in Ubuntu. SpamAssassin is installed, but it appears to do nothing at all.

I have these packages installed:

Code: Select all

ii spamassassin 3.4.0-1ubuntu2.1
ii evolution 3.10.4-0ubuntu2
ii evolution-common 3.10.4-0ubuntu2
ii evolution-data-server 3.10.4-0ubuntu1.5
ii evolution-data-server-common 3.10.4-0ubuntu1.5
ii evolution-plugins 3.10.4-0ubuntu2
ii libebackend-1.2-7 3.10.4-0ubuntu1.5
ii libebook-1.2-14 3.10.4-0ubuntu1.5
ii libebook-contacts-1.2-0 3.10.4-0ubuntu1.5
ii libebook-contacts1.2-dev 3.10.4-0ubuntu1.5
ii libecal-1.2-16 3.10.4-0ubuntu1.5
ii libedata-book-1.2-20 3.10.4-0ubuntu1.5
ii libedata-book1.2-dev 3.10.4-0ubuntu1.5
ii libedata-cal-1.2-23 3.10.4-0ubuntu1.5
ii libedataserver-1.2-18 3.10.4-0ubuntu1.5
ii libedataserver1.2-dev 3.10.4-0ubuntu1.5
ii libevolution 3.10.4-0ubuntu2
And this is what my Junk settings look like:
evolution_junk.png
At this point I already marked hundreds of messages as "Junk" or "Not Junk", but there is still no effect whatsoever - all messages end up in my Inbox.

What am I missing?

Sorry, this is not a solution. This just describes everything I have already done. Is it working for you?

Turns out there was a regression in the version of Evolution packaged with Mint 17.3. You can learn more about it here: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+sour ... ug/1247366

I did not get SpamAssasin to work, but I did get the functionality I need by switching to Bogofilter. In order to do this, I had to compile Evolution 3.12.11 from source. This process was actually quite painless.

First I used Git to check out the following repos:
git://git.gnome.org/evolution-data-server
git://git.gnome.org/evolution

Then I checked out the EVOLUTION_DATA_SERVER_3_12_11 and EVOLUTION_3_12_11 tags respectively.

Then I compiled each project by running autogen.sh, getting an error about a missing dependency, installing the missing dev package and running autogen.sh again. I did this until all the dependencies were satisfied and then I ran 'make', followed by 'chechinstall' to make a Debian package.

For evolution-data-server, I used the following parameters:

Code: Select all

./autogen.sh --disable-weather --enable-ipv6=no --with-openldap --disable-examples --disable-uoa
For evolution, I used:

Code: Select all

./autogen.sh --enable-gnome-desktop --disable-autoar --disable-gtk-doc-html --enable-smime --enable-nss --disable-weather --without-help --with-openldap --enable-pst-import
