Synaptic messages after removing or installing software

Post by dave8671 »

I been getting these messages when I install or remove software, though not always. I was wondering what this means?

Removing simple scan
W: Can't drop privileges for downloading as file '/root/.synaptic/tmp//tmp_sh' couldn't be accessed by user '_apt'. - pkgAcquire::Run (13: Permission denied)

Installing leafpad
W: Can't drop privileges for downloading as file '/root/.synaptic/tmp//tmp_sh' couldn't be accessed by user '_apt'. - pkgAcquire::Run (13: Permission denied)

Clementine
W: Can't drop privileges for downloading as file '/root/.synaptic/tmp//tmp_sh' couldn't be accessed by user '_apt'. - pkgAcquire::Run (13: Permission denied)

thanks

It looks like you are running Synaptic as "root" user, instead of using the regular "sudo" priviledge from your own user account.

All the operations I have done succeed none have failed. I only get them though synaptic not if i use the cl.

Actually, bug reports filed for both Ubuntu and Debian suggest that this is not, in fact (despite the bug reports!) a bug but, rather, a misleading message. The Debian 'bug report' gives one hope that the message will be changed.
Linux Mint 17.3 x64.
