Not sure how many are affected, but after the update to FF48, right-clicking a URL in any page brings up a huge menu of useless choices and some useful ones like opening in a new tab fail to work. Seems new with this FF version on Mint 18, but this newly posted workaround fixed it for me:
Enter in the address bar and click through the warning:
about:config
Paste into the about:config search bar:
distribution.searchplugins.defaultLocale
Click and replace the long (faulty) string with this simple one:
en-US
Hope this is useful. (Not sure if it's a problem on all Mint 18 releases or if the fix works for other languages / locales.)

TRUST BUT VERIFY any advice from anybody, including me. Mint/Ubuntu user since 10.04 LTS. LM20 64 bit XFCE (Dell 1520). Dual boot LM20 XFCE / Win7 (Lenovo desktop and Acer netbook). Testing LM21.1 Cinnamon and XFCE Live for new Lenovo desktop.

Thank you.
Your solution worked for me.
The problem only happens after updating everything using Update Manager.
I don't remember which version of Firefox is included with the ISO.
I now need figure how what happened to all the search engines.
