octet stream-what is it ???

Postby tinca » Wed Mar 04, 2009 2:50 pm

Hi all,

I am running Mint Elyssa 5. Today I downloaded a file that now sits on the desktop. I have deleted it, but when I restart the computer it restarts again, and keeps on downloading. I thought that I would be downloading an .iso file that I could burn to disk and use as a live CD. The file is

/home/keith/Desktop/debian-live-500-amd64-lxde-desktop.img.part

If I burnt this as an .iso to disk would it work, if not how can I delete it permanently, as I do not know where it is, apart from being on the desktop

Anything ending in .part usually means it's a temporary file for a download. The .part means it never finished downloading. Find out what you used to download the iso and see if you can continue the download process or cancel it if that's what you want to do.
