Mint 18 32bit forcePAE video players open/close
Running Mint Cinammon 18, 3.0.7, 32bit, forced pae, on HP Pavillion dv1040us pentium M 1.60 ghz, 2GB RAM, Video Intel 82852/855GM, and can't play .mov or .mp4 files in the default video player or VLC. They just open and start for 2 seconds and then close. VLC will play the audio from a .mov file but no video. Players worked fine in Mint 17.
The VLC player is playing it but the screen is black. If you change a video setting the video is visible for a second or two before going black again.
Does anyone have a fix for this or know if it is a known issue?

Even with all of the updates since August, this problem still exists and I cannot play video files longer than a second or two before they close.

Some more media players you can try.
I hope the videos arent corrupted? Did you play the same ones with 17.3

Try booting with live usb and test.

Even with all the updates to date, this problem still exists on my Dell Latitude D600 and my HP dv1040us laptops.
Same problem on both systems. Video players won't stay open and play any videos.

The same also for my Latitude D600: Video Player crashes every time
. VLC works but video isn't fluid.

Linux Mint 19.3, 32 bit on a Dell Latitude D600 notebook, Pentium M 2.0 GHz, 2GB RAM.

You might install the VLC player and try that. If it works then set it as your default player. It started working for me on the Dell D600 but the other player still won't work. Also, neither one works on the HP dv1040us. Yes, VLC is not very fluid.

It's true only with Serena. If I use VLC in Maya it's fluid.babyblues409 wrote:... Yes, VLC is not very fluid.

Babyblues,
video player works if you boot Serena in maintenance mode.
VP is more fluid than VLC but it's fluid sufficiently only if its window is small.
Probably Mate is now too much heavy for an old D600.
Incidentally also suspend/resume function is ok.

It has been broken in Cinnamon, both Serena and Sarah. !8 and 18.1
Still broken.
