Thanks Clem that's fantastic. Wish I'd seen your last reply before I followed the earlier instructions (used Synaptic) as, when I tried to use Firefox on 32-bit LM17.3 KDE tonight it was completely unusable, just crashed as soon as I tried to do anything. The Ubuntu version seems to be OK.
Dell Inspiron 1525 - LM17.3 CE 64-------------------Lenovo T440 8GB - Manjaro KDE with Mint VMs
Toshiba NB250 - Manjaro KDE------------------------K7S5A AMD 1.2GHz - LM17.3 Xfce 32 & WinXP-Pro
Acer Aspire E11 ES1-111M - LM18.2 KDE 64 ----Two ROMS don't make a write.

karlchen's suggestion also works for me +1.
I'm running Mint 17 Qiana 32-bit on an ancient Dell Dimension 5100:
Pentium 4 (single core) at 2992 Mhz
Kernel 3.13.0.24-generic i686
Graphics: Intel 82915G/GV/910GL
so not state of the art at all - I'm a refugee from the XP switch-off...

The Firefox 49.0+linuxmint1+rosa was crashing on network NAS connections and www:-
e.g. http: //192.168.0.105:500/index.cgi which should open Synology DSM 6.0 for my NAS box
also problematic was http://www.virginmedia.com which tripped on the reCAPTCHA login.
And https://global.americanexpress/myca/...... tripped before login.
But sites like Facebook worked OK.

Possibly a java or flash problem?

My plugins/options were/are:
Extensions: none
Plugins: Open H264 Video Codec, Shockwave Flash 23.0.d0, DivX Web Player 1.4.0.233, Iced Tea-Web plugin 1.5.3-Oubuntu0.14.04.1, QuickTime 7.6.6, VLC Multimedia (Videos 3.10.1), Windows Media Player plugin 10 (videos 3.10.1)
Service: none
Theme: default

But the Build4+Oubuntu0.14.04.1 is flawless thus far, so many thanks. But hopefully the linuxmint build can get fixed?
---And I thought Windows 7 file structure was complicated .... Ignorance was bliss

This issue is now fixed in firefox 49.0+linuxmint2+rosa. You can upgrade to this version via the Update Manager.

If you are using a mirror, please note that it can take a few hours for this new version to become available.

Note: We received an email earlier this week about random crashes but the sender didn't specify how to reproduce it, or the fact that it only happened in i386 (it's very telling when an issue only affects one architecture) and told us his issue was already fixed in version 49.0.1. This version was for Windows only, so it was dismissed. Your detailed feedback on the other hand immediately put us on the right track. It's a pity this thread only came to our attention today. Many thanks for your patience and for your help in fixing this issue. Issues which only affect Linux Mint and not Ubuntu, or which only affect one architecture are both extremely rare and very easy to fix. If you encounter one of them again in the future, please make sure to contact the development team.

I'm locking this thread for impacted users in order to give its resolution max-visibility.
