You have to tell us more facts.
The minimum is exactly which Mint you have - which version and which edition (main or any of the CEs)
We also need to know a bit about all your hardware.
Run " lspci " in a terminal and post here (To copy from a terminal right click)
Some wifi and possibly built in sound can be connected to USB even if they are internal - if you suspect you have one of these run " lsusb " in a terminal.
Also tell us if this is using mint4win or not, quite important
I was unaware of such an option ....

Well I can tell you this much - it's an ATI chipset - pretty obvious :) but that means less experience, fewer questions
I'll have to see if I can find something

I've added this as a suggestion for future versions of Mint, but I guess this is a kernel issue

I never thought linux could do hibernate / suspend without issues (for that matter even windows as well after few cycles of hibernating, windows starts crawlling). Also I normally use my machine always plugged in (not a mobile pc). Thats why I haven't thought of hibernate after suspending. But now I am able to hibernate my machine (there is a nice post for hibernating with nvidia drivers), probably I may also develop a need for this feature.
