Something like screen or tmux for GUI applications?

Post by chrisra » Sat Feb 04, 2017 10:59 am

Hi everyone,

with my current computer I've always had issues where Xorg crashes for some unknown reason, taking the whole session with it. (Others have the issue, too: viewtopic.php?f=208&t=159435)
After a year I haven't been able to figure out why, so I'm giving up on that for now, continuing to save the log files each time. What I'm interested in instead: Is there something like screen or tmux that would keep my applications running and allow them to re-attach to the new X server when it restarts? Ideally everything would run that way without me having to specify so. Obviously I know nothing about how all of this works, so please forgive me if this is technically impossible. But it's always worth asking whether this exists!

Best,
Christoph
