teamviewer 9 problem

hi all,

first, sorry for the "strange" English, i'm French... ^^

i'd need your help for a remote desktop's problem.
i'm professionnal, and 'i'm preparing more and more pc's under linux mint mate 64 rather than win 10, for all reasons that all of you here perfectly know. :o)

I've bought two years ago a pro licence for using and installing teamviewer on all my customers's machines. it was then the version "9", and for info it was 500€ !!!
until now, all is ok : i put the "teamviewer qs.exe" on all desktops, and when someone needs help, i tell them to launch it.
then , they just have to give me the "id" and the password displayed by teamviewer, and here it goes, i can work on their machine.
All is still working perfectly well if i stay under windows.

problems are beginning with Linux mint : i've found the teamviewer_qs.tar.gz of the version "9" under linux.
after decompressing on a mint mate 64, it gives a folder "teamviewer9qs". cool !
in this folder : a file : "teamviewer" and 4 folders : config, doc, logfiles, tv_bin.
when clicking on "teamviewer", it adds a new folder "profile", nothing else... in this new folder, 2 reg files that seem to mention wine registry, and lot of folders and files.

if i click on "teamviewer.desktop", it displays an error message "verification of your teamviewer version failed, will quit for security reasons, pkz reinstall Teamviewer".
and exactly the same error message if i click on the executable "teamviewer" icon.

Teamviewer team have proposed to solve the problem : buy the version 12 ! 400€+ !!!

so here's the question :may some of you suggest something to fix the problem described above, it would be cool !
OR, may some of you suggest an other desktop remote control than teamviewer ? BUT one that is as simple as teamviewer to use for the customers.
i mean : just an icon to click, and a pass or a code to give to me for enabling the control from my pc.
even if my "side" pc (always the same one) needs more customization or settings adjusting, no problem.
the only "serious" thing is to have a basic-hyper simple action to do for my customers, that don't have any idea about ip adresses, nor vnc, nor anything else of this kind :o)

since TeamViewer is what I'm also using,
then it's that TVQS9.exe that is placed onto any PCs that I've a need to remote into,
- I'm just starting to replace that with the TVQS11 in fact, so my usb stick is a bit behind :(
so don't use any teamviewer_qs.tar.gz version, but rather use their EXE version,
ie: direct from their web site, or from your usb stick, & where your other fav software, is kept.

for my PCs the Linux version of TV is a *.deb file & not any .tar.gz file
Use the top most version - - (deb 32-Bit / 64-Bit Multiarch)
Note: that this Linux version of TV apparently is a specialised version of ./wine,
from what I've been able to gather, from various sites.

just about every IT Pro that I've ever come across, uses TV over most other remote methods,
- for the same reason - - CheapSkates - - unlike you, that haven't bought the product

Same here :? What I've done: put all the expensively licensed, dated but still perfectly usable programs inside a "virtual windoze"...

Thus, my decade-old ex-server, running on Linux, currently hosts VMware Workstation, which in turn hosts Windoze 7 ultimate, which in turn hosts TeamViewer 7, Adobe Lightroom 3 and Acrobat Professional 6, respectively - and all of this works perfectly well (in it's own sandbox...) 8)

Hi "kitof-fr",

I just read your post and the good replies to it. Here are my thoughts on this as well.

I would highly recommend that you install the current TeamViewer (TV) using the easy to install Linux ".deb" file as user "Pierre" suggested. Just save the file and double click it to install it. TV should work well with all your clients regardless of what versions of TV they use and on whatever operating system they use.

Je vous recommande vivement d'installer le TeamViewer (TV) en utilisant le fichier ".deb" Linux facile à installer que l'utilisateur "Pierre" a suggéré. Enregistrez simplement le fichier et double-cliquez dessus pour l'installer. TV devrait fonctionner bien avec tous vos clients indépendamment de quelles versions de la télévision qu'ils utilisent et sur le système d'exploitation qu'ils utilisent.

J'espère que cela t'aides ...

Since the OP purchased ver. 9 he can only install ver.9 on client PC's as it is not forward compatible. I tried searching for ver.9 deb file on their site and it looks like he will need to contact their support to get this older version if he wishes to continue using it or pay for a new version to legally use it.
The instructions suggested Windows XP or better, so I installed Linux :)

hi, and thx all for your answers.

First, TV team says that ver 9 is not anymore supported. No more question about this possibility to get help from them...

second, the windows pc that is used for the tv sessions is equipped with the full 9 version, juste like all my customers are equipped with the 9 version of teamviewer qs, so all is ok.
except when i try to control a mint pc, cause until now, all i've tried go to errors : either a message on MY win pc saying that distant version (12) is newer, and telling me to update mine (never ! 400+ €!!)
or the old 9 versions i put on the mint sides are not functionnal...

but i'll try to install one by one all the newer versions of the linux tv qs in executable versions that i'll find and will test all that... thx for the advice.

maybe i'll try too to install a "free" version of the full tv 12 on my mint pc, and the 12 qs on the linux customer's pc's , until it may be "blocked" by the tv team...

thx too for the virtual windows proposal. But i don't know yet how all these "virtual things" are working, for now...

so thx to all of you, and i won't miss to put here the different results, if it may help someone ! ^^

after all this time, for closing the thread, i've finally contracted a loan, and bought the version 12 of teamviewer...

all was too much complicated, or uncertain.
