Skype on Mint 17

Post by tinker123 » Sat Apr 01, 2017 11:00 am

Linux Mint 17 Qianna Cinnamon
Logitech C270 Desktop or Laptop Webcam

I'm having trouble getting started with Skype and Mint.

I tried the version of Skype in the repository, the online version of Skype, and the latest beta provided by Skype for Linux.

In all three cases the camera icon for video chats is greyed out.

No error message, I can see and hear the person on the other end, but they can't see or hear me.

The only thing I did for "installing" the web cam was to plug it into a USB port.

Do I need to do anything else?

Thanks for any clues

The Skype camera fix: Run the next commands in Terminal.

Code: Select all

 sudo apt-get install libv4l-0:i386

Code: Select all

sudo nano /usr/local/bin/skype
.... the contents

Code: Select all

LD_PRELOAD=/usr/lib/i386-linux-gnu/libv4l/ /usr/bin/skype
... save and quit and run

Code: Select all

sudo chmod a+x /usr/local/bin/skype
