Post by hallergard » Wed Jul 05, 2017 3:20 am

After installing and running "$ ~/.dropbox-dist/dropboxd" get stuck at the sign in screen which has a box with red text:
There was a problem completing this request
What to do?

First downloaded the most recent deb-file on the Dropbox site and installed it and then tapped the dropbox shortcut in the start menu. Got the quoted message. Uninstalled and deleted all dropbox related in the /home/userfolder also in cache.
Tried again now in terminal $ cd ~ && wget -O - "https://www.dropbox.com/download?plat=lnx.x86_64" | tar xzf - Same message.

The best way on Mint to install Dropbox is through the repository.
uninstall what you've done so far and simply go to a terminal and install it this way.

Code: Select all

sudo apt-get install nautilus-dropbox
when it's finished it will be in internet on the menu. click and it will download and install the latest stable version.
Good Luck.

Thanks, but it did not work, did not get the sign in screen. Did get the tray cloud icon. Choosing sign in on the context menu tries to run a script "cli_link_nonce" from somewhere in the cache, but the browser dies. Thought it could be a browser problem, so uninstalled Chromium and installed Firefox, rebooted - alas same problem. Dropbox is running but cannot sign in!

Not exactly the same problem - the sign in from the context menu still looks for the chromium browser even though deleted and Firefox now default
KDEInit could not launch 'chromium-browser'
Could not open library 'libkdeinit5_chromium-browser'.
Cannot load library libkdeinit5_chromium-browser: (libkdeinit5_chromium-browser: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory)
How purge??

try this go to your home directory and delete the

Code: Select all

 .config/chromium
file. it's a hidden file.
After that try to start dropbox again. If that does not work there is something else going on with your install.

Tried deleting .config/Chromium, purging, installing a newer version (1360) of the Chromium Browser and enabling backports to update KDE (am on 18.1 KDE). No luck, still cannot sign in! Any new ideas?

I'm running Cinnamon on Linux Mint 18.2. You might try re-installing Nemo-dropbox after removing Nautilus-dropbox. Use the Software Manager from the Menu. Check that Nautilis-dropbox is not installed. If it is installed, remove it. Install Nemo-dropbox. Execute the installer from the Menu, looking under All Applications for Dropbox, by double-clicking the name. An installer should begin. Wait for it to finish, follow any instructions on the screen. You will have to sign-in to your Dropbox account to get access to you files.

Thanks frankt! Tried nemo-dropbox as suggested, but same problem: The sign in screen shows the message "There was a problem completing this request", and entering user name and password and tapping Sign In, the tray shows that the script cli_link_nonce runs, opening a new sign in screen with the same error message. So cannot log in.

Just realized 18.2 KDE is available. Will make a fresh install which hopefully will solve this problem.
