XFCE pops up and two seconds later Xscreensaver grabs my desktop with no prompting from me. It's kind of irritating, and I can't figure out why it's happening. I believe it began about the time that I upgraded from 18.1 to .2. Any assistance appreciated. Thank you.

You can also check the Power Manager settings, iirc there is a lock screen checkbox there too.

Yes, I am experiencing something somewhat similar in Cinnamon 18.2 ( on the same day I upgraded from 18.1).

Here is the basic scenario:
July 28, 2017: I upgraded from LM Cinnamon 18.1 to 18.2.
Installed updates, rebooted. There were no apparent problems with the upgrade.
The Login window is the same as my 18.1 (not the newer one that comes with a clean install of 18.2).

I have two accounts on this system. One with admin priviledges, the other just standard.
Logged into the admin account then "switched user" to the standard account.
Did a few things there and then logged completely out of the standard account.

Upon signing back into the already logged-in admin account, the desktop starts acting blinky.
When I launch a program the window list icon appears, but the window does not.
When I click on the window list icon, the icon's window pops up, but is not active (colors muted - inactive window).
I cannot close the window, nor interact with any of the controls within the window.
None of the sytem tray applets respond.
The Applications Menu does work, but any lanched program will only show up minimized in the panel and unresponsive as described.

CTL+ALT+BACKSPACE did not work.

I was able to access the shutdown icon in the Applications Menu, and could use my arrow keys to navigate the shutdown menu and hit ENTER for restart or shutdown.

I verified that these symptoms were repeatable.

How I think I fixed it:

I went into the System Settings > Login Window > Auto login (button)
I did not have Auto login enabled, but I checked the box and then clicked on the "user" drop down panel.
The drop down went from blank to showing both my admin and the newer standard account.
I set it to the admin account, then de-selected 'Enable Automatic Login'.

After that the problem seems to have ceased.
I have been able to switch back and forth between the accounts without this issue.

I wonder it there is some kind of conflict with 18.2 using the old style Login window that has been carried over from 18.0/18.1?

Hope this might help!

Where are those? I can't seem to find any.
