RedNoebook not working now

Post by M_Mynaardt » Thu Aug 03, 2017 12:57 pm

Hi!

I like using RedNotebook for note-keeping and journalling.
I haven't actually used it the past few days. But it's not working at all.

I've installed t correctly

Code: Select all

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:rednotebook/stable
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install rednotebook
And it shows up in the Menu > Office, as it should.
But when I try to run it from the menu; nothing happens.
The funny thing is, it used to be on my Docky Bar, but I realized it's not there either.

Anyone know what might be causing it to not work?

Thanks in advance!

Maybe it doesn't work because the ppa version you installed isn't for the same ubuntu release your mint is based on? Backwards and forwards compatibility just don't work in Linux so you should install software for your release if you are going to expect it to work.

I'd try uninstalling it, getting rid of the ppa, and installing the repo version.

BTW software installed from ppas and tarballs is uinsupported, by definition.

Run it from a terminal. You will probably get an errormessage.

That is a possibility.
What command do you use to get rid of a ppa if I must?
I don't think I've ever had to that, to be honest.

PS: this has nothing to do with anything. But with that name "Hoser", like, are you also from the Great White North, eh? :D

I did that. Got an error message about a missing thing called pyyaml (or some such).

so I did this:

Code: Select all

sudo apt-get install --reinstall python3-yaml
And now it mostly works.
The Cloud and Tag panels don't display anything now.
But at least it actually shows up on the screen.
So, that's a start, I guess.

I updated the Kernel recently. I'm wondering if that might be the root problem with RedNotebook being a wee bit off.
