Google Drive for Linux Mint

Post by VanillaPudding » Thu Aug 10, 2017 1:51 pm

Hi,

I just moved from Windows to Linux Mint. On Windows, I frequently use Google Drive to back-up files and edit files with instant sync.
I want to ask if there is a similar application for Linux Mint for me to sync files between local machine and Google Drive?
Thank you in advance.

i like https://rclone.org/ - although probably not the most newbie friendly.

I've tried rclone and drive but I prefer google-drive-ocamlfuse.

Code: Select all

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:alessandro-strada/ppa -y
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install google-drive-ocamlfuse

Hi "VanillaPudding",

I just read your post and the good replies to it. Here are my thoughts on this as well.

What I find unusual is that from what I have read Google has a nice working Linux sync client that they use "in-house", but for some reason they do not offer it to other Linux users?

Remember that you can use more than one "Cloud" storage provider, I do. In addition to using Google Drive with the "InSync" client, I also use excellent "pCloud" service which has 10gb of free storage and a superb free Linux sync client, "Mega.nz" has 50gb of free storage and a superb free Linux sync client, "DropBox" (only 2gb of free storage), etc...

+1 for "InSync" a wonderful Google Drive Linux sync Client, but it does have a one time fee $29.99 per Google Account.

Thank you everyone. I feel happy that the community is so helpful.
Still, I heard about GNOME account or something. What is it and is it useful in my case?
