This is another "my car won't run, what to do?" topic. Please explain your self better, how is it flickering and when? Obvious solution is to enable vSync.

Might have to wait for a update or just try to update it, till about a week ago i was using chromium and 3 week ago this started happening https://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/1073x ... 2eq7RY.jpg drove me crazy , checked the nvidia drivers , googled tried this that.

Installed chrome and found out it was something wrong with chromium.

I'd go into Chrome settings and turn off acceleration. It doesn't work in Linux anyway. FF is the same.

browser acceleration DOES work in linux provided you have the correct graphic drivers. my youtube/chrome is high cpu if acceleration is OFF and the latest adobe flashplayer/FF/palemoon uses more cpu than the older libflashplayer_11.2.202.644

@charroo
RENAME .config/google-chrome > .config/google-chromeOLD and test out a fresh chrome profile to see if it is chrome or your hardware. to revert delete the new config/google-chrome and rename the OLD back

Is this "smudging" related to scrolling in the document? If you have the smudged text in a window, does it disappear if you open another window on top and go back to the window with the smudged text? If both this is the case then you should try to find a way to enable vSync on your system since this will most likely fix the issue..

smudging occurred only when acceleration was off.

when it on - there is a flickering from time to time. mostly in the navigation buttons while moving the mouse.

vSync will fix it?
do i just need to search for "vSync linux"?

don't have cinnamon so don't know where window manager settings located. switch to compton. you haven't provided any information about your system. do you have any drivers in the driver manager?

If the flicker is the whole screen, then it is most likely the issue known as screen tearing (often seen in games and VERY annoying). Please try this guide to enable vsync: https://community.linuxmint.com/tutorial/view/2304

i'll try to see if it is easy to use

edit:
so far the problem has lessened significantly or almost almost disappeared.

Sounds great! I wonder why vsync is not enabled by default in Linux since the horrible screen tearing may scare new users away from Linux.

what may cause it not being enabled?

I don't know. Linux has multiple windows managers (WM's) and desktop environments (DE's) and not all combinations may require vsync to avoid tearing. Enabling vsync by default may cause poor performance by WM's and DE's which have no tearing issues, and this may be the cause for non default vsync. In my LM 17.3 KDE system there is a neat setting (System settings -> Desktop effects -> Advanced) to enable vsync, all DE's should have such a setting instead of leaving the user to fiddle with config files.
