installing wine 2.0.2-stable on sonya

Post by 7nighthawk » Sun Sep 10, 2017 12:44 pm

I unsuccessfully tried to install wine exactly following the instructions on https://wiki.winehq.org/Ubuntu. The installation failed with this comment:

The following packages have unmet dependencies:
winehq-stable : Depends: wine-stable (= 2.0.2~xenial)
E: Unable to correct problems, you have held broken packages.

Changing "xenial" to "sonya" in the apt-add-repository line made no difference.

My system is mint sonya xfce. Installation on my other machine which still runs xenial runs without problems. Do I have to revert to xenial :( or does anyone have a solution?

Thanx for your attention

I have read that other members recommend installing and using PlayOnLinux, which from within the PlayOnLinux program you are able to install and use multiple versions of Wine. (many apps/games run better on different or specific versions of wine)

I can second richyrich's post, install playonlinux - you can install wine up to version 2.16 last time I looked or as old as 0.9.7.
some windows programs play better with older wines some with newer versions. I use it with version 2.13 for one program and version 1.4 for another.
once it is install you'll find it under the game section of the menu. do download a different version of wine simply go to the tool tab and manage wine version.
When you install a program you can choose any version of wine you have installed in the program. Work great for me.

good luck :)
