Deleted Files

Postby borgward » Sun Sep 24, 2017 1:55 am

Where do files go after the Delete button is pressed? I do not see them in Trash. Is it possible to recover them?

Yes, it is possible to recover them, usually. First of all, don't do anything else on that computer right now, as you run the risk of overwriting the deleted files, and then you will NOT be able to recover them. Probably your best bet is to use TestDisk/PhotoRec. Find it here:

There are also a number of recovery/rescue live CDs that include TestDisk/PhotoRec:

I am pretty sure there is a way to set your system up to send all deleted files to Trash instead of really deleting them, but I'm not sure what it is exactly. Somebody will know.

An easy way is to use R-Linux.
